  • ReverbNation - Provides innovative marketing solutions that musicians need to compete, cooperate, and differentiate in an increasingly noisy online environment. Unlike typical "closed" communities, artists use ReverbNation as their home base for approaching marketing and promotion across the Internet as a whole — be it via social networks, blogs, or the artist's homepage. Sign up here: http://www.reverbnation.com/main/overview_artist

Tools like TunePaks, FanReach, and Widgets give the artist the power to spread their music and information virtually anywhere. Real-time stats then provide a 360-degree view of how the music is spreading, who is listening, and which fans are actually passing it on to their friends and posting it on their pages.

I have an ever expanding list of services and suggestions for songwriters/musicians here: http://tr.im/songwriterresources
. Lists of free or cheap services, books you should read, copyright and licensing info, and other info.

Consider licensing your music in addition to selling CDs, downloads etc. There is more income potential, it's mostly passive, and it can lead to a lot of residual income building up over the years.

I license music for songwriters I work with. There is always a need for good music for Web, video, film, TV, video games, advertising and marketing campaigns, podcasts, video blogs and blogcasts, various background usage, and more. I offer simple, single song, non-exclusive licensing agreements. You can do it yourself (with some time, patience, and a good entertainment/contract attorney) or with a publisher. Broadjam, Filmmusic.net, and Taxi.com offer submission services for member songwriters for fees.

Good luck and keep cranking out the tunes.
